grow from home & community nurseries

  • Their Tree Scheme has volunteers growing seedlings for local landholders from home, alongside their Bush For Life weed-removal program across over 300 sites. Visit https://www.treesforlife.org.au

  • Grow seedlings at home for landholders and Landcare groups needing help revegetating, alongside their regular tree planting days along the Yarra and into regional Victoria. Visit https://www.treeproject.org.au

  • Most capital cities and many regional councils run their own community nursery: volunteers meet weekly or fortnightly to sow seeds, pot up seedlings, and do general nursery upkeep, feeding plants straight into local Bushcare, revegetation, and backyard habitat programs. No experience necessary is the standard line at every one of these. Lane Cove Council's Community Nursery (NSW) is a well-established example, weekly Friday sessions, over 250,000 seedlings grown by volunteers since 2005. Search your own council plus "community nursery" to find your nearest equivalent. Visit https://www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/Environment-Sustainability/Community-Nursery

Hands-on satisfaction, done from your own backyard or a community nursery.

"And what I do these days is running Indigenous plant nurseries, which is really interesting in itself in terms of educating the public... and informing the public in terms of what we're doing."
